Dental Crowns to Reduce Teeth Grinding
Your teeth wear out, crack, or break because of grinding, improper bite, fillings, and tooth decay. A dental crown can cover the entire visible surface of an affected tooth, and add strength, durability, and stability to the tooth. It can last for 10 to 15 years.
A tooth restoration or filling may sometimes be necessary before applying a dental crown.
A dental crown procedure needs at least two sessions of a few hours, and is done as follows:
give a mild anesthetic to numb the area;
make a model impression for the crown to be made:
place a temporary crown (known as a flipper) for you to wear until your next visit;
discuss the color of the crown and cement to be used;
get crown made from a dental laboratory;
remove the temporary crown during your second visit;
fit the permanent crown;
check and adjust for any bite discrepancies;
cement the crown to your tooth.
