Dental Fillings to Remove Teeth Decay

Teeth have hard surfaces made of enamel. Gradual or sudden loss of enamel leads to teeth decay, which makes the teeth sensitive and makes it to difficult to take water or food. It is a painful experience for everyone.

Teeth decay, tooth fractures, and otherwise damaged teeth surfaces can be repaired by use of dental fillings. Dental fillings cover up teeth surfaces that have lost their enamel. They employ special materials, such as silver amalgam, porcelain, and composite. In most cases, they are sufficient to get rid of teeth sensitivity caused by enamel loss.

evaluate your teeth, gums, and supporting bone structure;

identify the number of teeth surfaces affected by decay or damage;

prepare the teeth and necessary surrounding areas for restoring the damaged area;

remove the decay or damage with a dental hand-piece or laser;

cleanse the area to remove bacteria or debris;

isolate the tooth to be filled, to prevent moisture from interfering with the bonding process;

place various adhesives;

fill the surface with a silver amalgam, porcelain, or composite material,; and

harden the filling with a special bonding light.

A traditional dental filling based on a silver amalgam typically lasts for 12 years. A modern dental filling based on a composite typically lasts for 5 to 7 years; however, it looks and feels much better than an amalgam based filling. People with amalgam based fillings sometime visit us for composite based fillings. Due to the higher cost of material, a composite based filling is costlier than an amalgam based filling. If your insurance pays for an amalgam based filling, but not for a composite based filling, you may ask us for amalgam based fillings to reduce your own payment, or you may ask us for composite based fillings by paying for the difference.
