Dental Root Canal at Our Office
A dental root canal is the natural cavity within the center of a tooth. It contains the tooth’s nerves. Food and other wastes left inside the mouth lead to growth of bacteria inside root canals. Bad bacteria affect the teeth nerves. This leads to unbearable toothache and pain in the nervous system. A dental root canal therapy then becomes essential.
In a dental root canal therapy, during one or more visits, we:
take X-rays to study the shape of and damage to the root canals;
use local anesthesia as needed to numb the area near the tooth;
place a rubber sheet around the tooth to keep the area dry and saliva-free;
drill an access hole into the tooth;
remove the pulp along with bacteria, the decayed nerve tissue, and related debris from the tooth, by using several root canal drill files of increasing diameters;
apply medication as needed to remove any infection;
temporarily seal the tooth until the next visit;
thoroughly clean the root canal;
seal the root canal with a sealer paste and a rubber compound called gutta percha;
place a filling into the exterior access hole created at the beginning;
place a crown, crown and post, or other restoration to strengthen the tooth.
