Dental Sealants at Our Office
The chewing (occlusal) surfaces of the permanent back teeth (the molars and premolars) have deep fissures, where brushing is difficult and wastes accumultaion leads to decay. Dental sealants are plastic coatings placed on the permanent back teeth, so as to reduce the teeth fissures and decay.
In a dental sealant procedure, we:
thoroughly clean the tooth surface with a paste and rotating brush;
wash the tooth with water
dry the tooth
roughen the surface by placing an acidic solution on the fissured area
dry the tooth again
place a two-component liquid dental sealant material on the tooth
allow the sealant to harden by two-component reaction (or by using a light).
