Wisdom Teeth Extraction at Our Office
Wisdom teeth are the third and final set of molars that come up in late teen age. They are useful if healthy and properly aligned. They can be troublesome and may need to be removed if damaged or misaligned. Wisdom teeth extraction generally needs a surgery.
For extracting a wisdom tooth, we:
first prescribe you an antibiotic for clearing up infection if any;
ask you not to eat after midnight before the surgery;
give you a local anesthetic to numb the area of the tooth to be removed (or give a general anesthetic if several or all wisdom teeth are to be removed at a time);
open up the gum tissue over the tooth;
take out any bone that is covering the tooth;
separate the tissue connecting the tooth to the bone;
cut the tooth into smaller pieces if necessary to make it easier to remove;
remove the tooth;
apply stitches;
place a cotton gauge for some time;
remove the stitches after a few days.
